Microsoft to Launch Azure Cloud Service From Jan 1, 2010
18 Nov 2009
Microsoft Corp will launch its long-awaited Windows Azure Cloud Computing System on Jan 1, 2010.
The service will go fully live at the beginning of next year. The first month of the service will be free, and billing will start in February.
Azure, which provides an online platform for software developers to create their own programs, and space for customers to store data, was rolled out for experimentation a year ago.
Azure Cloud platform provides web space to store data and also serves as an online platform for software developers to create programs. There's also a subsystem codenamed Dallas which provides a marketplace for public and commercial data.
Microsoft is expected to be a big player in the cloud computing market but has lagged behind pioneering rivals such as Amazon.com Inc, which already sells cloud-based storage, and Google Inc, which offers a range of free, online software.
