Twitter To Launch its Service via SMS in India With Airtel

Micro-blogging service Twitter has partnered with Bharti Airtel to enable people to send and receive tweets without internet access. According to Twitter, the partnership will allow Airtel subscribers to send tweets at standard rates at Rs 1 per tweet and receive tweets for free through SMS.
Twitter will be available in India on SMS only on the Airtel network. There is exclusivity for the same for 4 weeks, in which only Airtel consumers will be able to use the service on SMS across the nation.
Biz Stone, co-founder, Twitter, has said there are more than four billion people with mobile phones and Twitter can work on all of them because even the simplest of these devices feature SMS.
Bharti Airtel is offering people in every city, every village, every remote taluk and even the smallest panchayat the opportunity to connect to Twitter and enjoy the open exchange of information with no added fees.
To use the service, an Airtel subscriber has to SMS Signup to short code 53000 at a cost of Re 1, follow the instructions to complete the registration process and start Tweeting.
