Sun, Fujitsu Add SPARC to Enterprise servers

24 Oct 2008

Sun Microsystems, Inc. and Fujitsu Limited announced the launch of the SPARC Enterprise T5440 server.

This is the first server to deliver the scalability and reliability of traditional midrange systems with the breakthrough performance and radical energy efficiency of the UltraSPARC T2 Plus architecture, claimed the manufacturers.

The SPARC server with the Solaris 10 Operating System delivers world record performance and enables customers to consolidate and virtualize midrange applications.

In a compact 4U package, the new server increases server utilization while reducing energy consumption and lowering operating costs.

The Solaris-based SPARC Enterprise T5440 server offers incredible performance on a completely different curve in a footprint that's half the size of the competition. For customers, it all comes down to faster, smaller, greener, better.
